Film
Rachel started her film career out on a lovely note. Her Sheridan College student film, “Note From Mr. God” (written and sung by Larry Norman) gained attention from the National Film Board of Canada for its creative collage style and she soon found herself involved in the NFB’s “Hothouse 3”, creating her first professional short entitled, “Meta Pre Ptolemy” (In retrospect, a simpler title might have garnered the film a little more attention). But attention enough it did receive in the form of screenings at the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, as well as the Hamburg Film Festival.
In the fall of 2008, Rachel finished the creation “Nagasaki Circus”, a short animated/marionette film. Visually evocative of illustrator Dave McKean’s work, this surreal story portrays a day-in-the-life of a cynical, stilt-walking mime and the co-workers he encounters while working in the Nagasaki Circus. This time around Rachel had the help of BookShorts, Bravo!FACT, as well as the National Film Board.
